silverlight_logo.jpgWhat is Silverlight to Mediasite?

Silverlight is a cross-browser, cross-platform plug-in that supports rich media experiences on the web. Its seamless and quick installation provides a consistent Mediasite experience for both Windows, Macintosh and Linux users on a variety of browsers including Microsoft Internet Explorer, Firefox and Safari

From a Techie point of view?

Silverlight provides a retained mode graphics system similar to Windows Presentation Foundation, and integrates multimedia, graphics, animations and interactivity into a single runtime environment.

In Silverlight applications, user interfaces are declared in XAML and programmed using a subset of the .NET Framework. XAML can be used for marking up the vector graphics and animations.

Silverlight supports playback of WMV, WMA and MP3 media content across all supported browsers.

Looking forward to Silverlight 3?

Highlights of new features and functionality of Silverlight 3 include: major media enhancements, out of browser support allowing Web applications to work on the desktop; significant graphics improvements including 3D graphics support, GPU acceleration and H.264 video support; and many features to improve Rich Internet Application (RIA) development productivity.
