Auckland graduation ceremonies and celebrations

Dates, times and locations for the Auckland graduation ceremonies, pre-graduation event, processions and the celebrations to honour Māori and Pacific graduates.

In order to attend a graduation ceremony or celebration you need to apply to graduate. View the details of each ceremony to find out which one you should attend.

Pre-graduation event

We invite all graduands to celebrate graduation with light refreshments and entertainment prior to the commencement of each ceremony's procession. Friends and whānau and are welcome to join you at this event.

Times

Times for Auckland pre-graduation events are as follows:

Ceremony 1, Ceremony 4, Ceremony 8: 8am to 9am
Ceremony 2, Ceremony 3, Ceremony 7, Ceremony 8: 12pm to 1pm
Ceremony 5: 12:30pm to 1:30pm

Location

The Commons, McKenzie Precinct, 21 Hurstmere Road, Takapuna.

Processions

Subject to fine weather, there will be a procession before each ceremony. All those receiving awards should participate in this traditional part of graduation. Whānau and friends of graduands are invited to take photographs and cheer on the procession.

Assembly

In preparation for the procession, you must report to The Commons in McKenzie Precinct on 21 Hurstmere Road, Takapuna. Please bring your numbered graduand ticket and report no later than 15 minutes prior to departure of the parade.

You will gather into a group of four and be directed by the procession Marshals. Master and PhD graduands will lead their colleges' processions. Spectators are encouraged to position themselves along the procession route. The walking distance is approximately 20 minutes from The Commons to the Bruce Mason Centre, so we recommend suitable footwear.

When you arrive at the Bruce Mason Centre, you will go to the Level 2 Conference Room (upstairs to the left), where you will be ordered according to the number on your graduand ticket. This is also the order in which you will cross the stage. You will then be led in single file downstairs and into the auditorium.

If standing for long periods is a problem for you, please let us know beforehand by email to campuslife.auckland@massey.ac.nz. We will then provide a seat for you.

As you will not be returning to your original seat in the auditorium at the Bruce Mason Centre, you can't carry anything during the procession through Takapuna. Leave any items you are carrying (like a handbag) with your whānau or friends prior to arriving in The Strand courtyard.

Whānau and friends are invited to welcome the procession outside the Bruce Mason Centre in The Promenade. Once the graduands have proceeded upstairs, family and friends are encouraged to take their seats in the auditorium.

Cancellations

If the procession is cancelled due to bad weather, an announcement will be made on the Massey website homepage at approximately the following times:

Ceremony 1, Ceremony 4, Ceremony 6: 7:30am
Ceremony 2, Ceremony 3, Ceremony 7, Ceremony 8: 11:30am
Ceremony 5: 12 noon.

If the procession is cancelled, reporting times to Bruce Mason Centre for the ceremonies are:

Ceremonies 1, Ceremony 4, Ceremony 6: 9.30am
Ceremonies 2, Ceremony 5, Ceremony 7: 2.00pm
Ceremonies 3, Ceremony 8: 5.15pm.
