Application form for halls of residence accommodation scholarships at Massey's Auckland and Manawatū (Palmerston North) campuses.

Massey Halls Scholarships (Auckland and Manawatū) are available to new Massey undergraduate students who have not studied at another tertiary institution in any country.

The scholarships (five at $5,000) are available to new students and may be awarded on the basis of academic achievement, sporting achievement, contribution to the arts, or community service.

How to apply

To apply for a Massey Halls Scholarship, complete all sections of this form and submit it by 5pm 20 August 2021.

Successful recipients will be announced 5 October 2021.

Selection criteria and eligibility

All selection criteria must be met for an applicant to be considered for any form of scholarship offered by Massey Halls Manawatū or Massey Halls Auckland.

You must also give either a written statement (max 500 words), audio or video outlining:

  1. The basis on which you have applied and what you hope to achieve during your university career.
  2. Your achievements to date.
  3. The impact and difference the prize money would have on you.
  4. Your NCEA Level 2 results, Year 12.
  5. A character reference from a senior member of your current school.
  6. For Māori, proof of your whakapapa and iwi.

Basic eligibility criteria

To be eligible for the scholarship you need to:

  • be a New Zealand resident, school leaver
  • be a new Massey undergraduate student
  • have not studied at another tertiary institution.

Other eligibility criteria and conditions of application

  • You must be prepared to enter into a residential agreement with Massey Halls Manawatū or Massey Halls Auckland in 2022.
  • All scholarship allocations will be determined by Massey Halls Manawatū or Massey Halls Auckland based on the criteria outlined in these terms. As scholarships are limited in number, not all candidates meeting these criteria will necessarily be awarded a scholarship.
  • Massey Halls Manawatū or Massey Halls Auckland reserve the right to not award scholarships in a year if no candidates are considered suitable by the scholarship selection panel.
  • Scholarship amounts are paid in New Zealand dollars and will be in the form of a credit on the successful candidates’ residential account with CLV Massey Halls Manawatū or Massey Halls Auckland only.
  • Scholarship recipients must be enrolled as a Massey University full-time student (0.8 EFTS over 32 weeks) and must reside in the Massey Halls accommodation for the full year the scholarship has been awarded. Part-time and distance learning applicants are not eligible.
  • If a scholarship recipient leaves the Massey Halls accommodation, withdraws from their course of study, leaves university altogether or otherwise breaches the specific criteria of eligibility as listed above, their scholarship will be terminated with immediate effect and a lump sum charge will be applied to the residential account on a pro-rata basis and will be required to be settled in full.
  • Scholarships may be terminated if Massey Halls Manawatū or Massey Halls Auckland deems the following: Unsatisfactory academic performance (such as falling below the required academic standards to continue at university) or the recipient acts in a way so as to bring Massey Halls Manawatū or Massey Halls Auckland communities or the University into disrepute.
  • All recipients of the Massey Halls Auckland or Massey Halls Manawatū Scholarships are expected to participate in their halls community. On receipt of the scholarship they will be expected to meet with the Village Manager to confirm their role in the community. They may be required from time to time to assist with reasonable promotion of Massey Halls accommodation and publicity events and activities.
  • Massey Halls Auckland or Massey Halls Manawatū accepts no responsibility for any tax implications that may arise from the grant of a scholarship to a scholarship recipient. Applicants should seek independent financial advice prior to lodging their application for a scholarship.
  • The scholarships are subject to the scholars achieving university entrance.
