Atawhai community , Ngā Whare Atawhai

All bedrooms in Atawhai are fully-furnished private rooms. Each bedroom has a window that can be opened, and a secure lockable door.

Each room includes:

• a king single bed and mattress
• wardrobe
• drawers
• desk, lamp and chair
• shelves, mirror and rubbish bin
• carpet and curtains
• heater
• basin (in five-bedroom).

Items you should bring

Along with clothing and personal items, you should also bring:

• bedding and towels (or you can purchase a bedding pack when you accept your offer of place)
• coat hangers
• laundry basket
• laundry detergent
• cleaning products
• 3M hooks/tape or white tac, if you wish to hang anything on your wall (no tape, nails, screws or blu tac allowed).

You may also choose to bring a small fridge, no larger than 45L, which must be put on a waterproof mat.

Bathrooms

The five-bedroom houses at Atawhai each have two showers and a toilet in separate rooms. Each bedroom also has a basin and mirror.

The two-bedroom houses have one bathroom with a shower, toilet, mirror and basin.

Atawhai houses are self-catered. Students can store food and prepare their meals in their shared house kitchens.

There are a range of supermarkets in Palmerston North, on bus routes, for students to purchase food from.

Communal spaces and shared facilities

Each house has its own kitchen and lounge. The lounges include sofas, TV and coffee table.

Kitchens come equipped with a fridge/freezer, stove and oven, sink and microwave. The dining area has a table and chairs.

All houses have a washing machine and laundry tub, and an outdoor deck and grassy outdoor areas which should be kept tidy and empty of debris.

The central common room for all residents has sofas, a TV, kitchen, toilets and a study area. Two dryers are also available at the shared common room at a cost of $3 per dry, with outside clotheslines nearby.

Residents are permitted to consume some forms of alcohol in this community, in moderation, within designated areas on set days and times.

• gym membership at the Massey Recreation Centre.

You can prepay by semester or full year. Domestic students are also able to pay by direct debit on a weekly basis.

Deposit

After you have applied for accommodation and your application has been successful, you will need to pay a deposit by the offer expiry date stated in your letter of offer to secure your place.

The deposit is $762 for a full year or $722 for one semester.

To secure a refund of fees (the processing fee is non-refundable) cancellations must be received by:

• 1 December 2023 for returning halls residents
• 22 January 2024 for new hall residents.
