Orientation is the time when we welcome you to Massey and help you get ready for study.

We offer an exciting programme of events, activities and workshops for our Semester Two orientation to help you settle into student life at Massey. 

You can choose to attend all of our orientation events or just the ones that appeal to you. Please note that some sessions are compulsory for some students.

You may have to attend a compulsory session if you are:

  • an international student in New Zealand
  • new to halls of residence in semester two
  • enrolled in:
    • Certificate of Foundation Studies (CFS)
    • Certificate of University Preparation (CUP)
    • Bachelor of Business
    • Bachelor of Accounting
    • Bachelor of Sport Management
    • Bachelor of Applied Economics
    • Diploma in Business Studies or Certificate in Business Studies.

If you have questions, you can drop in to any of our daily sessions from Tuesday 6 to Friday 16 July, any time between 9am and 12.30pm. A Massey guide or an academic adviser will be available to talk to you.

Monday 5 July

Certificate of Foundation Studies (CFS) and Certificate of University Preparation (CUP) students only

A free BA breakfast to welcome all new College of Humanities and Social Science students before the University Welcome.

After the University welcome there will be a chance for students to meet some of the academics from the College and ask questions about their programme (or university experience in general).

When: from 9am, Wednesday 7 July

Where: Student Central Plaza

Come and see us at the A.S.A. table and receive your free goodie bag to start the semester off right!

9.30am University welcome

When: 9.30am to 10.20am, Wednesday 7 July

Where: Atrium Round Room

A formal ceremonial welcome to Massey University.

This will take place within the seven Pou in the Plaza and will represent the journey you are about to undertake at Massey, from the seeds of thought to ultimate achievement. This will be followed by welcome addresses from the Senior Members of Staff, Students & Alumni, and the Albany Students’ Association President.

Please note that the Welcome will be held outside, so please come prepared for all weather conditions (sun, heat, rain). If the weather conditions become unsafe, we may need to move the Welcome into the Rec Centre.

11am Centre for Teaching and Learning

When: 11am to 2pm, Wednesday 7 July

Where: Library Level 3

Learn about our services and get to know our space. We want all students to feel confident about coming to us regarding assignments and academic writing questions.

12pm Massey 101 & Campus Tour

When: from 12pm, Wednesday 7 July

Where: AT1

Hear from your Massey Guides (senior students) about the things they wish they knew and advice you need to thrive in your first semester at University. They’ll give you all the insider tips about being a student in Auckland and answer any questions you may have.

The presentation will be followed by a guided walk around campus. You’ll check out teaching spaces, Rec Centre and the services available. Our Massey Guides will be able to answer any questions you have and help you find your way around.

1.30pm Get Involved

When: from 1.30pm, Wednesday 7 July

Where: ASA, Student Central Lounge

This session will let you know all the ways you can get involved in our community and make the most of your time at University. There will be a chance to sign up for a range of volunteer and leadership opportunities.

Nau piki mai, nau kake mai ki Te Rau Tauawhi. Haere mai, tūtaki ai mātou o Te Rau Tauawhi whānui, we’re keen to meet you all. Kai provided.

This session is compulsory for students enrolled in:

Where: QB2

The School of Natural and Computational Sciences have representatives from a range of majors and papers coming to welcome you to Semester 2 and answer any questions you may have.

Master of Management students only

This session is not compulsory, but we strongly recommend you attend. This session includes information you need for your first week at university.

10.30am Master of Management welcome

When: 10.30am to 2pm, Wednesday 7 July

Where: MBS 1.21

This is a welcome event for all the new Master of Management students. It comes with an introduction session about programme structure, professional practice, and a series of student services information. It is a great opportunity for students to meet their peers and lecturers.

Massey Business School students only

This session is compulsory for students enrolled in:

  • Bachelor of Business
  • Bachelor of Accounting
  • Bachelor of Sport Management
  • Bachelor of Applied Economics
  • Diploma in Business Studies.
  • Certificate in Business Studies.

This session is not compulsory for Bachelor of Communication students, but we strongly recommend you attend.

10.30am Ignite! Massey Business School Undergraduate Orientation

When: 10.30am to 2pm, Wednesday 7 July

Where: AT Round Room

The MBS Undergraduate Orientation is compulsory for all new undergraduate students enrolled in the following programmes:

  • Bachelor of Business
  • Bachelor of Accounting
  • Bachelor of Sport Management
  • Bachelor of Applied Economics
  • Diploma in Business Studies.
  • Certificate in Business Studies.

Bachelor of Communication students are also encouraged to attend.
