A tabby named Buster has his paws on the prize after winning a Berhampore cat photography competition last Monday.

Part-time photographer and early childhood teacher Anna Yamashita Simpson, 32, had the idea for a best looking cat competition after noticing how people in her neighbourhood loved showing off their cats.

Simpson took photos of each cat  entered and posted them to her social media page Hey Pretty Kitty where the public could vote.

The winner, a tabby named Buster, had 84 likes.

Simpson said she would be visiting Buster’s owners with cat treats, and a framed photo of Buster.

The competition raised $100 from $5 entry fees, and will go towards three charities, Feral Nation, Cats Protection League, and Kitten Inn.

Simpson said she was looking for other ways to fund raise through the platform, and hoped to run another competition later this year.

“It makes people feel good because they’ve done something for the other animals who obviously need help the most.”
