Thirty Master’s graduates in Vietnam recently received a Te Kunenga ki Pūrehuroa Massey University qualification thanks to a long-standing partnership with Vietnam’s University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City (UEH).

The graduates were recognised at a ceremony in Ho Chi Minh City on 4 October where Head of School Management and Marketing Professor Jo Bensemann welcomed them to Massey’s global alumni community, highlighting how important the partnership was for both institutions.

Since 2007, Massey and UEH have partnered to deliver the Master of Finance and since 2017, the Master of Management with a major in Human Resource Management. The partnership enables students to gain a Massey qualification while studying entirely remaining in Vietnam. The Master of Management (HRM) was the first Masters in Human Resource Management offered in Vietnam and alumni now occupy some of the most senior Human Resource Management roles in both multinational and Vietnamese-owned organisations operating throughout South East Asia.

New Zealand Trade Commissioner and Consul General in Ho Chi Minh City, Mr Scott James addressed the graduates, congratulating them on their achievement and highlighting the wider value of the partnership between UEH and Massey. In his speech, Mr James acknowledged the shared view of the importance of the impact of Massey's academic programmes and partnerships.

“Education is about more than just a qualification. Of course knowledge matters, technical skills matter, qualifications matter but so do curiosity, creativity, independent thinking and the ability to work well with other people. Those qualities are becoming more important,” Mr James said.

Massey Programmes Director at UEH Mr Ho Hoang Hai said it was a wonderful occasion to celebrate the students’ achievements.

“It was great to recognise students’ hard work and dedication, and share this special milestone with their loved ones.”
