The Engineering Leadership NZDF Study Grant will be open to students who are commencing their fourth year of study in the Bachelor of Engineering with Honours programme and are normally resident in New Zealand.
The intent of this grant is to recognise an individual who demonstrates the mixture of academic and personal qualities required to take a leadership role in engineering. The award will be a grant of $2000 to help towards the cost of study.
The successful recipient will also receive a tour of either the NZ Air Force Base at Ohakea or the NZ Naval Base at Devonport at a mutually agreed time. There will be an opportunity to take a flight or ship simulator, whilst at the Base. There may be also the opportunity to take a helicopter ride or stay on a ship for an evening but this is subject to availability.
Tenure and value
One award will be made each year.
The successful applicant will be given a study grant of $2,000.
In addition this study grant entitles the awardee to have a tour of either the Air Force Base at Ohakea or the Naval Base at Devonport. There may be also the opportunity to take a helicopter ride or stay on a ship for an evening but this is subject to availability.
Note: Transport to the Base is not included in this Study Grant.
30 MARCH in the year the Study Grant is tenable.

The award is available to domestic applicants (NZ citizen or NZ resident) who:
1.Are currently in Year 4 of the Bachelor of Engineering with Honours degree.
2.Studying a major in one of the following: Chemical and Bioprocess Engineering, Electronics and Computer Engineering, Engineering and Innovation Management, Mechatronics, Product Development
3.Have passed all Year 2 and Year 3 papers, (i.e. have not been awarded a CRP).
4.Achieved an average of grade B- or above in all of the Year 3 papers.
You will need to apply for this Study Grant.
Study Grant Selection
The Massey University Scholarships Office will send the applicants to the Engineering Programme Director or nominee, in the School of Engineering and Advanced Technology, to confirm that the applicant has achieved the academic requirements of the Study Grant. The confirmed applicants will then be sent to the NZDF Defence Recruiting Organisation, Specialist Recruiting Officer (Engineering) (or nominee). NZDF will inform the Massey University Scholarships Office of the successful applicant.
Applicants will be selected based on:
-Good academic achievement
-Applicant answers to three question about moral courage, leadership and social conscience
The NZDF may refrain from making an award in the event of there being no applicants of sufficient merit.
Awardees will not be allowed to defer taking up the Study Grant.
Selection and payment of the study grant will occur by 30 May.
