‘Piki Ake Kake Ake’ is a metaphorical term in te reo Maori that means to climb and to ascend. In the context of this scholarship, Piki Ake Kake Ake symbolises the hopes and aspirations of tangata whenua, by assisting five Maori students to excel in the disciplines of communication, journalism and marketing. The School of Communication, Journalism and Marketing wishes to assist and support Maori students to be successful.
1.The value of each scholarship shall be $1000.
2.There shall be five scholarships ($1000 x 5).
3.The scholarships will be paid directly towards the recipients’ fees in the Bachelor of Communication.
1.Applicants must be of Maori descent and be registered in the university’s database as being of Maori descent.
2.Applicants must be enrolling for third year full-time study in the Bachelor of Communication in the following academic year.
3.The award is open to full-time students across all three campuses and full-time extramural students.
The scholarships are awarded on academic merit within the Bachelor of Communication.
Responsibility for the award
The scholarships shall be awarded on the recommendation of the selection committee.
The selection committee will comprise representatives from the School of Communication, Journalism and Marketing, and the office of the Assistant-Vice Chancellor (Maori and Pasifika).
The scholarship amount of $1000 (per recipient) will be paid directly against the recipients’ fees for the Bachelor of Communication. All scholarship recipients will receive a certificate.
Conditions of the award
The awards may be held in conjunction with any other award, unless the conditions of the other award/s preclude it.
