1.The K A North scholarship is an opportunity for teachers and educators in Early Childhood, Primary or Secondary school settings in New Zealand who completed their pre-service education at the former Palmerston North College of Education or the Massey University former College of Education from 1996, to apply for funding towards their study. The scholarship provides tuition awards for $500, or half the cost of fees for all study completed at Massey University Institute of Education, whichever is greater.
2.The K A North Scholarship shall normally be awarded for one academic year only and preference shall be given to applicants who expect to complete their undergraduate degree or postgraduate qualification in the year immediately following receipt of the scholarship.
3.The number of scholarships awarded each year shall be dependent on the funds available for distribution in that year.
4.Applicants must have completed their pre-service training at Massey University former College of Education or the former Palmerston North College of Education, who are fully registered teachers and who are currently working full-time in an early childhood centre, or a primary or secondary school in New Zealand in either a teaching position of responsibility, eg as a syndicate leader, principal, deputy or assistant principal.
5.Applicants must have met the enrolment requirements of the Bachelor’s degree or postgraduate qualification they wish to complete.
6.The Selection Committee shall consist of the Foundation Director of the Institute of Education, or nominee, the Institute of Education representative on the Scholarships Committee and one other academic staff member from the Institute of Education.
7.Applications must be made in writing and should include:
•A statement of no more than 200 words stating why the proposed course of study will better equip them to practice as an educational professional
•A supporting statement of no more than 200 words from their school principal or centre Director/Manager outlining why the applicant should receive a K A North Scholarship
•A brief CV outlining education, teaching history and professional interests

9.The deadline for submitting applications for 2018 is Friday 20 October 2017. Successful applications will be notified no later than Friday 24 November 2017.
