This Trust was set up by the Wellington Paraplegic and Physically Disabled Association Inc in 1973.
The scholarship is in recognition of Dr Campbell's contribution as founder and President of the Association. He was also instrumental in setting up the Trust Board and was Chairperson for several years. He has given a great deal of time and effort to both the Association and the Trust and the community of disabled has been enriched by his wide knowledge of rehabilitation.
The objectives of the Trust are to make provision for:
1.The welfare and rehabilitation of paraplegic and disabled persons.
2.Research relating to the same.
3.Buildings, equipment and facilities relating to the same.
4.Re-establishment or integration of paraplegic and disabled persons into life and work of the community.
5.The mental and physical needs of paraplegic and disabled persons.
6.The training of persons to carry out any of the foregoing.
The objective of the Scholarship Panel is to ensure the scholarship assists in the meeting of costs for people with paraplegia and physical disabilities or those working in this field to undertake or further a course of tertiary study. This study needs to meet at least one of the objectives of the Trust.
Applications are open to physically disabled students committed to tertiary study and in need of assistance for payment of study fees, educational equipment or books.
NB the study of Occuapational Therapy on its own is not generally considered sufficient towards the criteria of "working in this field".
The closing date for applications is 1 October. The panel determines the number of scholarships to be awarded each year and will advise the outcome of the application by letter by 30 November.
