The Putaruru Veterinary Trust was established in 2006 after the closure of the Putaruru Veterinary Club. Its purpose is to provide financial assistance to students of veterinary science, agriculture and other areas of study that will directly benefit farming.
The criteria for selecting applicants is that they must be attending an educational institution in New Zealand and that they have resided for at least five years in Putaruru, Tirau, Tokoroa, Mangakino, Whakamaru, Tirohanga, Waihaha, and Atiamuri in the geographical area serviced by the former Putaruru Veterinary Club. Students or recent graduates may also apply for assistance if they are employed by a veterinary practice approved by the Trust Board.
Over the current year, various levels of support have been provided to students attending University, Taratahi Agricultural Training Centre and polytechnics. Consideration will be given to a wider range of training options provided that they are related to agriculture and veterinary science.
The Trust has significant funds for allocation. The sum allocated to each applicant is determined by the Trust Board.
