Purpose
The purpose of this fund is to provide financial assistance to Elite Massey athletes representing New Zealand at International Sporting Events in the following categories:

-Olympic Games
-Commonwealth Games
-World Cups
-World Championships
-World University Games/Championships
This fund supports the achievement of a tertiary qualification, while pursuing excellence in sport.


Value
Up to $3,000 may be awarded to contribute to the financial expenses associated with the event. The Committee reserves the right to grant more funding in exceptional circumstances.

Eligibility
Applicants must be New Zealand Citizens enrolled either internally or extramurally in at least 30 credits in one academic year at Massey University. Candidates who are also members of another tertiary sports academy programme (or equivalent programme) are not eligible to apply. (Candidates who are recipients of the Prime Minister’s Scholarships are eligible to apply).

Applicants can normally only apply for the Award once in an academic year.

Selection Criteria
Applicants must have gained FORMAL SELECTION for New Zealand representation at an International Sporting event in the following categories: Olympic Games; Commonwealth Games; World Cups; World Championships; World University Games/Championships. Applicants must apply prior to the competition.

Applicants can only receive a grant from the Massey University Elite Sports World Travel Award twice during the course of their academic study at Massey University.

The Selection Committee reserves the right to consider factors outside the usual selection criteria under very exceptional circumstances.

Responsibility for the award
The Bursary shall be awarded by the University Scholarships Committee on the recommendation of a Selection Committee consisting of the Regional Registrar or nominee, the Manager of the Recreation Centre, a member of staff from the Scholarships Office, and one academic staff member from the Sports area.

Payment
The award will be paid out on receiving receipts. The award will be deposited into the recipient's bank account or a nominated account where written approval to do so is provided by the recipient and permission is granted on a case by case basis by the Regional Registrar. Bank account details must be supplied on a statement providing proof of account and name.

Conditions of the award
Successful applicants are required to seek media promotion; and ensure that Massey University is acknowledged at media opportunities.

Recipients will be aware that their behaviour could potentially impact on the reputation of Massey University and all recipients will undertake to behave in a manner that will promote rather than detract from Massey University's reputation.

Where possible, in agreement with the NSO and the Event's sponsorship regulations, successful applicants are required to display the Massey University logo on appropriate competition clothing.

Recipients are required to submit a report to the High Performance Coordinator after attending the event.

Recipients are required to adhere to the Anti-doping policy of the NSO and comply with the World Anti-doping Code.

Recipients cannot apply to the Travel & Accommodation Assistance Fund during the year of their Massey University Elite Sports World Travel Award.

Closing Date
1 March, 1 June and 1 December annually subject to sufficient funding.

Applications
Applications must include:
-a brief CV of sporting achievements over the last two years specific to the chosen event
-a budget for the total cost of attending the event and the proportion applied for
-other sources and amount of funding received and/or applied for
-a written statement of support from the coach. If no coach is available at the time of application, a written statement from the National Sports Organisation is required
-proof of FORMAL SELECTION
-a statement of whether there are other team members representing New Zealand at the same event who are also Massey University students.

Completed application forms should be sent to the Scholarships Office, Massey University, Private Bag 11-222, Manawatu Mail Centre, Palmerston North 4442 by the closing date.

Should my application be successful, I understand that my name, sport details, academic course, and/or photo may be used by the Selection Committee for any publicity purposes they deem appropriate.

Applications are not accepted more than 3 months in advance of the closing date.
