Global Student Athlete - Strength and Conditioning

Field training.jpg A semester of study abroad doesn't have to keep you from training for your sport.  GSA - Strength and Conditioning provides you with the resources to improve your stamina and increase your fitness while you are away.  Male and female athletes from any sport can participate in GSA - Strength and Conditioning during semester 1 or 2 on Massey University's Manawatu campus in Palmerston North.

Membership at Two Sports Facilities

GSA - Strength and Conditioning provides you with access to two athletic centres.

The Sport and Rugby Institute is an award-winning high-performance sports facility preparing athletes for regional, national, and international competitions.  The Institute houses an indoor turf training facility, weight room, fitness centre, and a fully equipped recovery room with hot and cold immersion pools, massage tables, ultrasound and ice machines.

Massey University's Sport and Recreation Centre contains a free weight and cardio workout area, basketball courts, rock climbing wall, spinning studio, racquetball and squash courts, boxing and kickboxing studio, yoga and dance studios, and a dojo.  A wide range of sports clubs and group fitness classes are also available.

Customise Your Training Regimen

Lucas Wetherby Jonsson.jpg Student Experiences

Lucas Wetherby Jonsson, a soccer player from Elmhurst College, was drawn to Massey because he could improve his fitness and athletic performance while studying abroad.  He had this to say about being part of Massey’s Strength and Conditioning the programme.

“I am very happy with my decision to take part in the GSA program at Massey University.  As an athlete, it is difficult to study abroad, but I was able to fully live the study abroad experience through the GSA program, as well as get into great shape with my personalized workout plan from my trainer. I am excited to return to the Elmhurst College Mens Soccer team in top form for next season.”
