Study abroad and student exchange

Studying at one of Massey’s three campuses is a great way to experience the Kiwi lifestyle, explore a beautiful country, and make new friends, all while gaining academic credit toward your degree.  Past students have shared great stories with us about their time here in New Zealand.

Check our list of student exchange partners if you are not sure whether your home university has an exchange with us.

Our list of study areas by campus will give you an overview of the subjects available to study abroad and exchange students.  The Paper Search will help you find individual papers (classes) to take.  You can choose papers from any college or department, provided your studies at your home university align with the prerequisites for the paper you want here.

Massey University is organized into five academic colleges.

Looking for internships or other academic experiences outside the classroom?  Massey offers a number of papers involving fieldwork and some unique internships and other experiential opportunities to enrich your studies.

National Expedition and Internship summer programme

Massey offers a customized study abroad experience that takes place over the Northern Hemisphere summer.  This programme, which is unlike any other in New Zealand, offers a two week national expedition and a four week internship.  You can sign up for the entire six week programme, or enrol in either the national expedition or the internship separately.  If you are studying in New Zealand for Semester Two, come two weeks early and travel the country before your classes begin.

Generation Study Abroad scholarships

US citizens or residents can apply for a US $2,000 travel award to help with flights to New Zealand and US $500 towards study abroad or student exchange at Massey University.  The eligibility requirements and application materials are available online.

GoOverseas.com scholarships

A $500 scholarship is available through GoOverseas.com for study during semester 1 2016.  Country Silhouettes is the theme for this round.  The application deadline is 5 December.  More information about the scholarship is available on their website.

New Zealand focused papers

Enrich your cultural experience by studying one or more papers with a focus on New Zealand. Examples include New Zealand fauna and flora, Maori language, natural heritage, social policy, environmental issues, Maori performing arts, and literature.
