Academic admission requirements for international students from a New Zealand secondary school

Massey University encourages international students with a New Zealand secondary school qualification to apply for admission to study at Massey.

Please note that Massey has a standard academic entrance requirement for entry into most undergraduate level degree programmes, however there are some exceptions for specific programmes and additional entrance requirements which are listed below.

Additional entrance requirements for specific programmes from a New Zealand secondary school qualification

Bachelor of Aviation
(Air Transport Pilot)

In addition to the NCEA or CIE requirements, admission into the ATP requires selection by interview and achievement of an academic IELTS 6.5 (no band score less than 6.0) or equivalent.

Bachelor of Engineering (Honours)
(BE (Hons))

Entry will be guaranteed to applicants who gain University Entrance with NCEA Level 3 as follows:

a. 16 credits or more at NCEA Level 3 in Physics and 16 externally assessed credits or more at NCEA Level 3 in Mathematics normally including algebra, differentiation and integration (for ALL BE (Hons) majors)

b. In addition, those students intending to enrol in the Chemical and Bioprocess Engineering major (or minor) require 14 credits or more in NCEA Level 3 Chemistry:

Bachelor of Food Technology
(Honours) (BFoodTech (Hons))

Entry will be guaranteed to applicants who gain University Entrance with NCEA Level 3 as follows:

16 credits or more at NCEA Level 3 in Physics and 16 externally assessed credits or more at NCEA Level 3 in Mathematics normally including algebra, differentiation and integration, and 14 credits or more in NCEA Level 3 Chemistry.

Bachelor of Design (BDes)

In addition to the NCEA or CIE requirements, admission into the BDes requires selection by a portfolio of artwork.

Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA)

In addition to the NCEA or CIE requirements, admission into the BFA requires selection by a portfolio of artwork.

Bachelor of Nursing (BN)

In addition to the NCEA or CIE requirements, admission into the BN requires selection by interview and achievement of an academic IELTS 6.5 in each band.

Bachelor of Veterinary Science (BVSc)

Please note: A selection process operates for admission into semester 2 (the professional phase) of the BVSc and as such not everyone who completes semester 1 will be accepted into semester 2.
