ACEJMC Accreditation

The School of Communication, Journalism and Marketing is the only School in the Asia/Pacific region that has achieved accreditation from the prestigious Accrediting Council on Education in Journalism and Mass Communications (ACEJMC)!

The Bachelor of Communication degree is also the only three-year degree in the world to be accredited by ACEJMC!

Our Bachelor of Communication degree and our Masters of Journalism degree were both awarded this accreditation in 2016. Four Bachelor of Communication majors are accredited: Communication Management, Journalism Studies, Marketing Communication, and Public Relations.

What does this mean for our graduates?

As a Bachelor of Communication student in the majors above or a Masters of Journalism student, you can feel safe in the knowledge that your degree meets exacting worldwide standards for excellence in teaching, learning, currency of content, and experiences.

Comments from the ACEJMC assessment team include:

The faculty are highly regarded for teaching. The postgraduate journalism faculty are outstanding.

Research is both prolific and deeply embedded in the culture of the School.

The School’s four undergraduate majors prepare students with theory and real-world skills.

The curriculum for the postgraduate journalism degree is rigorous, professionally oriented, and well-designed to prepare students for the world of work.

Assessment…includes a set of direct and indirect measures that are being used to consistently upgrade the quality of the education students are receiving.

Students feel that they can “talk anytime about anything” with the faculty. Students reported that the faculty is “always there for you and want you to do well”.

Students interviewed by the ACEJMC assessment team report they feel “well-prepared for the professions in New Zealand”.

The School has strong links to industry and academic associations that help to keep curriculum current and relevant.
