School of Public Health
The School of Public Health is committed to furthering our knowledge and expertise of health and wellness through research and teaching about Public health and Māori health. We do this by working in an applied and multidisciplinary way, in collaboration with communities of high need so we can better prevent illness and disease and promote good health.
The School of Public Health provides research and teaching and brings together the combined efforts of five existing public health and Māori health Research Centres:

The School works with other Universities to further many areas of public health and Māori health knowledge and expertise. It is also leading work in new areas such as Sleep/Wake and provides a wide range of expertise including community evaluation, policy advice, clinical and laboratory analysis in areas as diverse as environmental and occupational health, Māori health, alcohol and substance abuse and sleep.
The School is involved in a number of ground-breaking initiatives including Te Hoe Nuku Roa, the Māori Family Longitudinal Study, and in creating a bridge between science and art through the Smash Palace Consortium examining sleeping and waking through the lens of artists and scientists working together.
The Centre for Public Health Research offers the Masters in Public Health, with other Centres offering specialised teaching in specific areas. Currently, they are working with the College of Sciences IVABs Centre, to train veterinarians and doctors throughout Asia, Central Europe, and the Pacific on zoonoses.
Applied, practical and multidisciplinary work is a hallmark of the School.
