Contact courses are an opportunity for you to interact with other distance students taking the same paper and to receive face-to-face tuition. They are designed as an integral part of your study programme.
If your papers specify courses in February and March, you must enrol as soon as possible to ensure that you receive your material on time.
Distance students attending contact courses are welcome to make use of any of the on-campus student services and facilities provided.
Your contact course details will be e-mailed to you, along with an invitation to register for your contact courses (or a confirmation, if you have already registered).
Contact courses may be held at Massey’s Albany campus (located on Auckland's North Shore), Manawatu campus (located in Palmerston North), and Wellington campus, as well as at a Christchurch venue. Overseas students should only enrol in papers with compulsory contact course requirements if you are prepared to return to New Zealand.

If you enrol in a paper with an “absolutely compulsory” contact course, it is a requirement that you attend. No exemptions from attendance are possible. Failure to attend an "absolutely compulsory" contact course will result in failure of the paper, regardless of the rest of the assessment.
You will be sent information irrespective of whether you register or do not register. You are encouraged to register as this assists in determining how many students will be attending at each location. Contact course registration information will be sent with the first study material posting. Please also ensure that you make appropriate accommodation arrangements well in advance of the contact course.
Students studying offshore should only enrol in papers with absolutely compulsory contact course requirements if you are prepared to return to attend the contact course in New Zealand.
If you enrol in a paper with an “compulsory” contact course, it is a expected that you attend, though exemption from attendance may be possible. If you are unable to attend, you should make an application to the course coordinator to for an exemption prior to enrolling in the paper. In any case where an exemption is not granted, you should nominate an alternative paper that has a recommended, voluntary or no contact course. It is essential when you are choosing your papers that there are no clashes of compulsory contact courses.

Please note that a recommended or voluntary contact courses may be cancelled if there are insufficient enrolments, so please register well in advance.

The contact course coordination team administers and coordinates approximately 700 courses across Auckland, Wellington, Palmerston North and Christchurch. We can help you with any contact courses queries, provide on-campus knowledge and assist with any difficulties you may encounter whilst at the course. The team works closely with all distance student services to ensure information is accurate, timely and comparable.
