Aegrotat / Impaired Performance

Candidates who have been prevented by illness or injury from presenting themselves at any examination, or who consider that their performance in any examination has been seriously impaired by illness or injury may, on application and with the approval of the Vice-Chancellor, be granted a grade of pass under aegrotat consideration. Please note that application for an aegrotat may still result in a fail grade, if the candidate's overall course work was not deemed well above the minimum pass standard. For regulations please consult the Massey University Calendar.

To apply

  1. Download the Application for aegrotat/impaired performance consideration (62 KB) .
  2. Print the form.
  3. Follow the instructions on the form, complete it and post it to the address indicated.

Use one form only for all applications. Both you and your doctor/counsellor will be required to complete the application form. For applications on medical grounds, the application will be rejected if Part II of the form is not completed by a registered medical practitioner

Applications must be filled out and submitted as soon as possible after the examination. If you are applying on medical grounds, you must visit a registered health professional within 7 days of the examination. Do not send in an application for an Aegrotat/Impaired Performance consideration after you have received your examination results, as it is unlikely to be considered.

Supporting documentation such as medical certificates must be in English, or be accompanied by an official translation in English.

Assignments

Please note that you cannot apply for Aegrotat or Impaired Performance for assignments. Aegrotat regulations require an assessment to be held at "a fixed time and place" for the assessment to be eligible for aegrotat or impaired performance consideration.

Attending a Funeral

If you were unable to sit your examination because you had to attend a funeral, please download and complete the Declaration of Attendance At a Funeral form, and attach it to your Aegrotat application.
