Level
The fourth number of the course code shows the level of the course. For example, in course 219206, the fourth number is a 2, so it is a 200-level course (usually studied in the second year of full-time study).
Credits
Each course is worth a number of credits. You combine courses (credits) to meet the total number of credits needed for your qualification.

- 1 Analyse and validate the kinetics of microbial inactivation for alternative food processing technologies with emphasis on pathogens of public health concern and emerging food-borne pathogens.
- 2 Discuss and analyse the various unit operations (heating, drying, freezing, fermentation, membrane processing, etc), that affect food safety and food quality.
- 3 Apply and analyse hurdle technology in the preservation of food safety and quality.
- 4 Evaluate and critique emerging food processing technologies such as high pressure processing, pulsed electric fields, microwave and radio frequency processing.
- 5 Evaluate and select natural antimicrobial compounds in the preservation of food safety and quality.
- 6 Evaluate suitable packaging systems including intelligent and active packaging to ensure product food safety.
