Get practical experience

Each course involves study, reading, assignment work and teaching experience. You can expect to complete 14 weeks of practicum in a variety of early childhood services.

The GradDipTchg(ECE) is a one-year professional pre-service qualification that enables primary-qualified teachers or undergraduate degree holders to become knowledgeable, skilled and reflective teachers in early childhood education.

Become a registered teacher

On completion of the GradDipTchg(ECE), graduates are eligible to apply for registration with the Education Council of Aotearoa New Zealand as provisionally certificated teachers. As a provisionally certificated teacher, you will be qualified to teach in New Zealand kindergarten and early childhood education settings.
