“The staff were exceptionally supportive and encouraging…”
I lead the school’s strategic vision in terms of teaching and learning. My role includes curriculum design, assessment practices and reporting from Year 7 to 13, where I oversee a staff of 12 Head of Departments. Completing my Masters in Educational Leadership and Administration in 2013 has provided me with enrichment opportunities in leadership to support the management of a range personnel – both students and staff. The course allowed me to include a broad combination of areas to support my ‘in school’ work, with many assignments and reports contextually appropriate to my job and the combination of study in gender, motivation, HR and adolescent behaviour all support my current role. I enrolled at Massey because I enjoyed the part-time availability of the course, having started in 2009 with one paper to being awarded a Ministry of Education Study Award in 2013 to complete the final 4 papers. I also enjoyed the opportunity to meet staff and other students at contact courses and many of these collegial friendships have continued since graduating in May this year. The staff were exceptionally supportive and encouraging, which is needed when you have been out of ‘study mode’ for a significant period of time! I have left Massey with a greater appreciation of it as a tertiary learning institute and have recommended the Masters course to many other middle managers.
Please note: the Master of Educational Administration and Leadership has been replaced by the Master of Education (Educational Administration and Leadership).
A Master of Education (Educational Administration and Leadership) builds on your professional experience as an aspiring, middle or experienced leader. It is an applied programme that prepares teachers and leaders in early childhood, primary, secondary and tertiary contexts for the challenges of taking the lead in their educational settings.
