About myself:

I am from Germany and completed my Masters in 2003 at the University of Goettingen, Germany on “Intragenomic variation, evolution and phylogenetic potential of the Internal Transcribed Spacer (ITS1 & 2) of the ribosomal DNA within the most original Metazoa, sponges (Phylum Porifera)”. I came to New Zealand in 2004 to do a PhD with Steve and Mary on the evolutionary history, speciation, phylogeography and population genetics of selected animal taxa in New Zealand and the Chatham Islands (“Speciation and phylogeography in the New Zealand archipelago”). For my PhD I worked on a diverse set of taxa, e.g. woodpigeon (Hemiphaga), carabid beetles (Mecodema), grasshoppers (Phaulacridium) and cave weta (Talitropsis). In general I am interested in how species evolve, the phylogeography of taxa and the wider questions regarding the evolutionary history of biotas.
