Industry, alumni and community , Te Ahumahi, ngā raukura me te hapori

Massey Business School works closely with industry, alumni and the community to improve businesses, communities and society.

Industry and community engagement and partnerships

Our school partners with enterprises to foster growth and leadership in business, using our resources to develop and promote new thinking, products, technology and ways of working.

We also engage with community organisations, building mutually beneficial partnerships and use our knowledge and expertise to improve our communities and society as a whole.

We strive to advise business and community groups to improve workplaces and quality of life within organisations.

Our school has consultancy and business start-up services and we also match business partners with students for internships and work placements.

Internships

We work with businesses and organisations to place students in internship and work placement roles. This allows our students to gain real-world experience while gaining credit towards their degree.

In return, businesses and organisations benefit from having talented, young, keen students to help with projects.

Benefits of taking on an intern

  • Our internship students are smart, eager to learn, flexible and technically savvy.
  • You may want to get a younger, fresh perspective on aspects of your business. Or you may be looking for help to complete a project that you wouldn’t normally have time for. You might even find the perfect future employee.
  • Our school’s internships are a great way for you to give back and participate in the education of the next generation. You can kick-start a young person’s career, giving them the practical experience they need to transform academic learning into real-world knowledge.
  • At the end of their internship, students produce a report that is made available to your organisation, often delivering great insights.

About our student interns

  • Interns are usually in their final year of study and have averaged at least a B minus grade in their first and second year studies.
  • Interns are studying one or more of the following subjects:
    • accounting
    • agricommerce
    • aviation management
    • communication
    • economics
    • finance
    • human resources and employment relations
    • international business
    • marketing
    • management
    • organisational technology management
    • sport management
    • property.
  • Students supply a CV and application letter to us that demonstrates their commitment. All students are interviewed before being accepted into the programme.
  • Interns are required to complete a set number of hours in the workplace. The timing of these hours is negotiated between the host and the intern.
  • Interns are capable of working at professional entry level. Past students have undertaken tasks such as:
    • analyses of organisation operations
    • implemented software systems
    • prepared marketing plans
    • been involved with social media initiatives
    • undertaken specific tasks at an entry level.

Intern experiences

“Massey offered the most interesting and flexible Communication degree I could find. I would not have had the chance to intern in India or work where I am now without my excellent study experience at Massey.”
Nick Davies

Bachelor of Communication (Marketing and Public Relations)

“During my study I had the opportunity to work as a property valuation assistant for CBRE, and also did a summer internship at Xigo (a specialist client-side construction project management company). I am now working full time at Xigo as an Assistant Project Manager.”
Sarah Moore

Assistant Project Manager, Xigo

“The internship provided hands-on experience and valuable insight on working at the border. This allowed me to develop essential skills, such as communication, risk assessment and dealing with diversity. A key highlight for me was observing communication techniques employed by Quarantine Officers.”
