The sociology of sport is an emerging discipline in the School of Sport and Exercise, highlighted by members of staff who engage in a range of research projects related to sport and gender, indigenous/Māori identity and sport, sport mega-events, and the social context of sport and alcohol. In addition, researchers also explore sport as it is produced for, represented in and consumed through the media, including advertising and sponsorship.
