With campuses in Auckland, Palmerston North and Wellington, we offer study and research across all aspects of business expertise and leadership, together with the Massey School of Aviation. We provide on-campus, online and blended learning options for domestic and international students.
Many of our postgraduate qualifications are designed for people already in work, including part-time and online options so our students can balance study with their jobs.

Professor Jonathan Elms
Jonathan holds the Sir Stephen Tindall Chair Professor in Retail Management and is the founding Director of the Centre for Advanced Retail Studies in New Zealand. Before Massey, he spent seven years at the Institute for Retail Studies, University of Stirling.
Professor Jo Cullinane
Jo’s academic background is in strategic management and human resource management. She joined Massey University as Deputy Pro Vice-Chancellor in August 2017, having previously worked in roles in the UK such as Academic Dean at Coventry University in London and Director of Learning and Teaching in the Business Faculty, University of Greenwich.
Associate Professor Claire Matthews
Claire became Acting Head for the School of Accountancy in 2024, having been Associate Dean Academic Quality since 2014 after teaching banking and financial advice. A recognised expert on banking and personal finance, her research interests are consumers’ financial behaviour, decisions and attitudes, with a focus on payments, financial capability, retirement planning and KiwiSaver.
Mr Ashok Poduval
Ashok has been a training captain with Indian Airlines and Gulf Air and has over 12,500 hours of airline jet flying experience. He has held corporate positions with IATA and Gulf Air and is a frequent international presenter and consultant.
Professor Stephen Croucher
Stephen was listed in the top 1 per cent of all communication scholars globally from 2012–2016. An award-winning and widely published scholar, his research expertise is in immigrant cultural adaptation, religion and communication, statistics, and conflict.
Professor Sasha Molchanov
Sasha became the Acting Head of School of Economics and Finance after serving six years as an Associate Head of School. His research interests are in the fields of investments, international finance, econometrics, politics, and market design. Sasha is a faculty mentor of the Student Investment Club
Professor Jo Bensemann
Jo became the Head of School for the School of Management in 2019, after five years as Associate Head of School. Her academic background is in human resource management, tourism and entrepreneurship. She maintains research interests in entrepreneurship and innovation, agribusiness and family business, along with women and work.
Professor Matt Roskruge
Matthew Roskruge (Te Atiawa, Ngāti Tama) is a Rutherford Discovery Fellow, Director of Te Au Rangahau, Associate Dean Māori and Professor in the School of Economics and Finance.
He has an academic background in health and population economics, and researches as an applied economist and social scientist.
Professor Dr Dr Jens Mueller
Jens has been a CEO and Director in global firms, including more than 9 years as Board Director for the $1+ Billion PHARMAC Crown entity, an advisor to Governments and corporate leaders and is also a Licensed Immigration Adviser.

Women in business
Almost 60% of Massey Business School students and graduates are women. We have several initiatives to help female students reach their potential.
Achieving Career Excellence (ACE) programme
We established the ACE programme to reduce the gap between entering the workforce and achieving career success for high-achieving female university students. Research shows that aiming for the ‘right’ first job helps to address the gender gap.
We have run this programme for many high-achieving female students successfully since 2009. The programme includes leadership sessions, presenter sessions and networking opportunities:
- Practical guidance/mentoring – participants learn from the experience of successful women in business who act as role models by sharing their stories.
- Career-related skills – interview skills, salary negotiation skills: knowledge about the ‘real world’ and salary expectations, career planning.
- Networking opportunities – meeting like-minded people and learning from their workplace, career and life experiences.
- Leadership sessions – goal setting, values, confidence building, identifying passions and strengths.
- Working life – developing social and professional networks, voicing questions/concerns about working life from a female perspective.

This student-led group aims to build connections between women and create a supportive community where women feel confident and represented throughout their studies.
