Stroke survivors commonly experience emotional distress, which impacts negatively on the rehabilitation process. Ms Wainwright investigated the experiences of younger stroke survivors in New Zealand and evaluated the efficacy of Problem Solving Therapy post stroke. Her results demonstrated that younger stroke survivors experience a number of different problems, especially difficulty with invisible disabilities, and that support groups may be beneficial to mitigate post stroke emotional distress.
