Technological progress in the field of ultracold gases paved the way for studies about quantum many-body physics. Mr Cosme investigated various non-equilibrium phenomena in closed quantum systems of interacting bosons (particles). Firstly, the dynamics of the center-of-mass was suggested as a sensitive convergence test for many-body numerical methods. As an example, this new convergence tool was used to detect slow convergence in a particular method called multi-configurational time-dependent Hartree for bosons. The understanding obtained on the applicability of this numerical method has allowed Mr Cosme to propose an experimental protocol for observing the interaction blockade phenomenon. The important question of how statistical mechanics may arise from the laws of quantum mechanics is a fundamental one. Mr Cosme's research has contributed to the understanding of this problem by looking at the relaxation dynamics in a one-dimensional double-well potential. The system was intensively studied using quantum mechanical and semiclassical perspectives.
