Thesis Title
Privacy-Preserving HAR Using Infrared Signatures Acquired from Thermopile

Research Description
In recent years, the role of Human Activity Recognition (HAR) in areas such as aged care, smart homes and rehabilitation has been gaining prominence. Development of activity recognition techniques while ensuring privacy and security has become a major focus of research within the discipline of computer engineering. The goal of this research project is to use infrared signals obtained from thermopile sensors (low-resolution thermopile cameras) combined with deep learning algorithms to perform accurate human activity recognition while preserving privacy.

Personal Description
I was born in Shanxi Province, China in 2000. I came to New Zealand on my own in 2016 and developed expertise in computing and machine learning while completing my BSc and MSc in Computer Science. I was offered the opportunity to pursue doctoral study at Massey University under the supervision of Associate Professor Fakhrul Alam in the School of Food and Advanced Technology. My co-supervisors are Dr Daniel Konings (Massey University) and Professor Edmund Lai (AUT). I hope to become an R&D engineer after graduation.
