Thesis Title
Statistical models for earthquakes incorporating ancillary data

The cyclic and clustering nature of earthquakes and the mounting availability of hydrologic and geodetic ancillary data led to the idea of statistical models investigating earthquake sequences. Ms Wang introduced a new mathematical model for the seismicity rate, taking into account both earthquake cycles and clusters, and hence improving medium-term hazard estimation.  Statistical methods were developed to extract and analyze signals from groundwater level and GPS measurements of ground deformation, with the later providing precursory signals indicating an elevated probability of earthquake occurrence.
