MSDN Academic Alliance

As a member of the MSDN Academic Alliance (MSDNAA), Massey University's School of Engineering & Advanced Technology is authorised to provide you with program software for use on your personal computer. You must agree to the MSDNAA usage guidelines listed below.

The MSDNAA program administrator for Massey University's Information Sciences & Technology will maintain records of student use, provide aggregate data to Microsoft upon request, and ensure full compliance with the program among users including students, faculty, and technical staff. By installing, copying, or otherwise using the software, you agree to be bound by the terms of the EULA and the License Amendment. If you do not agree to be bound, do not install, copy, or use the software.

Installation Guidelines

  • You must be registered in at least one School of Engineering and Advanced Technology course within Massey University to be eligible to load program software on your personal computer.
  • The software will be available on a lab PC for you burn to CD to install on your personal computer.
  • For certain products, you may also be given a product key for installing the software. This key is unique to you and traceable so you should not disclose the product key to anyone else.

Usage Guidelines

  • You may not give copies of loaned or downloaded software to anyone else. Other eligible students must obtain software using the method(s) set up by the MSDNAA program administrator.
  • You may use the software for non-commercial purposes including instructional use, research and/or design, and development and testing of projects for class assignments, tests, or personal projects. You may not use MSDNAA software for any for-profit software development.
  • When you are no longer taking a School of Engineering and Advanced Technology course at Massey University, you may no longer obtain MSDNAA software. However, you may continue to use previously installed products on your computer, provided you continue to follow MSDNAA program guidelines.
  • If you violate the terms of the EULA and the License Amendment, the MSDNAA program administrator will demand confirmation of removal of the program software from your personal computer.

How to get Registered

Eligible undergraduate students are automatically imported at the start of each semester.  Access for individuals (undergrad) cannot be granted before the start of semester and accounts expire at the end of the year.  If the semester has started and you cannot access MSDNAA then please try the steps below:

Students taking courses within the School can access MSDNAA software via

  • All students whether previously registered or not should press the 'register' button from this page
  • Your Student ID is your username.
  • Complete the registration process and your details will be emailed to the email address you entered in the registration form.
  • If the system advises that you already have an account then press the 'forgot username or password' link from the sign in page. 

If you find that you still cannot register, please contact, with your student ID number.

Students will only be registered if they have a status of 'Approved' in the student management system and are taking a SEAT program or course.

Please Note:

SEAT Program Administrators only manage access to the system

Issues with the system or downloads not working are managed by Dreamspark

Orders for CDs are managed by Dreamspark.

Software Assurance

Please note orders placed on DreamSpark WebStores are not subject to the same access restrictions as other orders. Eligible DreamSpark users retain access to their downloads / product keys for a minimum of two years from the order date by default. Offerings that extend or restore access to a download/key are not necessary. Being Eligible means the student must currently enrolled at Massey, therefore you will be unable to log in or access Software Assurance downloads or product keys once you are no longer a Massey Student.
