Ms White researched the attachment of bioactive peptides to cyclodextrin, a well recognised biologically acceptable molecule, to form a complex with potential use in drug delivery. Bioactive peptides are commonly associated with cellular processes and can be used for medicinal purposes. Sulfonamides were attached to cyclodextrin complexes using a process called solid phase peptide synthesis. This is a common technique, but one which has not been used for such synthetic applications. Ms White’s cyclodextrin compounds were biologically tested against cancer cell lines. The chemistry has paved the way for future advancements in both the chemistry and delivery mechanisms.
