Ms Jahns investigated the formation and applicability of small bioplastic inclusions formed inside some bacteria. Through genetic engineering the bacteria can be forced to produce specially designed polyester particles. Ms Jahns found a new way of displaying functionalities on the particle surface that will have potential use in biomedicine and biotechnology.
