Bachelor of Communication (Communication Management)
Public Relations and Events Executive for Elevate PR Marketing & Events
"Although I started my degree on a trial basis, I ended up loving it and even surprised myself by winning a few awards along the way.
In the early days of my study I was given a simple, yet powerful piece of advice: Just say yes. As terrifying as this was, it pushed me out of my comfort zone and into a number of amazing experiences – like being a news reporter at the 2011 Rugby World Cup.
Despite my weary beginnings, I quickly learnt that communications was the path for me. I won a number of top student awards, was named on the 2012 Massey Business School Dean’s List and selected to participate in the Massey Business School internship program, which led to full-time employment as the Communications Advisor at Sport Manawatu.
The BC’s business and humanities mix was a main attraction for me and particularly unique. There aren't many universities that offer such a variety of study areas and flexibility under one degree. I enjoyed being able to study linguistics alongside PR /communications and not being restricted to just one industry. It helped me keep perspective on the scope and volume of learning available and an open mind in terms of where I wanted to take my career. I think the mix also allows future employers to see you've had a range of learning experiences and explored different interests.
From my role at Sport Manawatu, I have since moved to Brisbane where I work as a Public Relations and Events Executive for Elevate PR Marketing & Events. I have found my niche and created my own role specialising in corporate conference/event management and internal communications.
I love my job and thoroughly enjoy the variety of clients and conferences that I work with. Elevate is an amazing company with a great team and an endless growth of new clients and opportunities."
