Much has been written about the power of persuasion over the years and a guest speaker to Massey Business School, Harry Mills, shares new insights next week into what he calls “friction-free influencing”.

As chief executive of the AhaAdvantage Group and a specialist on influence for the Harvard Manage/mentor programme, Mr Mills has extensive experience on what it takes to convince people faster by eliminating resistance.

He will be sharing his thoughts at a free seminar at the Executive Seminar Suite on Massey University’s Wellington campus from 6pm on Wednesday May 31.

His 14 books on influencing, message making and business development have been translated into 18 languages.

His latest two books are Zero Resistance: How to sell more by eliminating scepticism and Mistrust and Secret SAUCE: how to add persuasive punch to your messages.

Both provide readers with the practical tools and techniques to become expert at Friction-Free Influencing, a subject he addresses under three key themes.

  • Why and how we need to change the dominant ways we persuade and influence others
  • Learn about the astonishing power of self-persuasion that succeeds by helping people convince themselves
  • Discover how to move sceptics from no to maybe to yes.

Senior lecturer in the Master of Public Relations programme, Dr Chris Galloway, says the seminar will also be an opportunity to learn more about the College’s latest offering in the public relations field.

The Master of Professional Public Relations is an all-new degree that takes a global approach to public relations, he says.

A professionally-oriented qualification, the Master of Professional Public Relations focuses on giving students a global, contemporary view of the field of PR and high-level skills that can be taken back into a current PR-related senior role, or use them to take on a new role in the field. Specific focus for the study includes areas like digital communications, global communications, PR analytics and reputation and risk management.
