This bursary was established in 2008 from the estate of Peter Collett. Mr Collett was a school teacher who began studying by distance in 1946 and continued into retirement. A Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Education were among the qualifications he gained.

Who we're looking for

We're looking for someone who has successfully completed some distance learning courses and is facing financial hardship.

What you'll be studying

These are undergraduate bursaries. You will have attained 30 credits via distance learning and are currently enrolled as a distance student in 30 further credits.

Eligibility criteria

You must be:

  • a New Zealand citizen or permanent resident
  • an enrolled Massey University student and studying via distance
  • undertaking your first university qualification and have successfully gained credits as outlined in this award's regulations
  • facing financial hardship.

Application checklist

Include the following with your application:

  • a character reference from someone who can speak to your circumstances
  • an academic reference (optional)
  • a budget outlining your annual expenses and any predicted earnings, including any awards and scholarships held to date
  • A personal statement outlining your financial need and how this award would assist your study. Identify your financial circumstances by providing an overview of your financial circumstances which shows that you have a greater need than your peers.
  • your academic transcripts for any tertiary study completed outside of Massey University

Selection considerations

When choosing our recipients we will primarily consider your financial need. We will also consider your academic achievements and evidence of good character. This scholarship may not be awarded every year.
