Subject to fine weather, there will be a Graduand procession prior to each ceremony. All those receiving awards should participate in this traditional part of graduation. There will be three groups processing: Graduands, University staff and University Officials. A band will lead the procession. Light refreshments will be served for one hour prior to the departure of each procession.
In preparation for the Graduand procession you will be required to report to The Commons, (McKenzie Precinct – 21 Hurstmere Road, Takapuna. Please bring your numbered 'Graduand' ticket and report no later than 15 minutes prior to departure of the parade:
Ceremony One: Tuesday 21 April 2020 at 8:45am; procession departure at 9:00am
Ceremony Two & Ceremony Three: Tuesday 21 April 2020 at 12:45pm; procession departure at 1:00pm
Ceremony Four: Wednesday 22 April 2020 at 8:45am; procession departure at 9:00am
Ceremony Five: Wednesday 22 April 2020 at 1:15pm; procession departure at 1:30pm
Ceremony Six: Thursday 23 April 2020 at 8:45am; procession departure at 9:00am
Ceremony Seven & Ceremony Eight: Thursday 23 April at 12:45pm; procession departure at 1:00pm
You will gather into a group of four and be directed by the procession Marshals. Master and PhD graduands will lead their Colleges' processions. Spectators are encouraged to position themselves along the procession route – which will be available by the end of March. The walking distance is approximately 20 minutes from The Commons to the Bruce Mason Centre, so we recommend suitable footwear. When you arrive at the Bruce Mason Centre, you will go to the Level 2 Conference Room (upstairs to the left) where you will be ordered according to the number on your 'Graduand' ticket (which is also the order in which you will cross the stage). You will then be led in single file downstairs and into the auditorium.
Note: Please email email@example.com if standing for long periods is a problem (a seat will be provided).
As you will not be returning to your original seat in the auditorium at the Bruce Mason Centre, it will not be appropriate to carry handbags, satchels, cameras, hand-held wallets or other small items during the procession through Takapuna. Participants are requested to leave such items with their families or friends prior to arriving in The Strand courtyard.
Families and friends are invited to welcome the procession outside the Bruce Mason Centre in The Promenade. Once the graduands have proceeded upstairs, family and friends are encouraged to take their seats in the auditorium.
