Professor Rosie Bradshaw has joined an elite group of plant pathologists, having been made a fellow of the Australasian Plant Pathology Society.

Professor Bradshaw, who works for the Institute of Fundamental Sciences, leads a team of scientists interested in the pathogens of forest trees.

Recently the team studied forest diseases caused by species of the fungus-like Phytophthora genus, including kauri dieback, with the aim of helping efforts to identify resistance to the devastating disease. Their research, which is supported by the BioProtection Research Centre, has identified key proteins made by the pathogen that might hold clues as to how the plant and pathogen interact with each other at the molecular level.

The society was established in 1969 and is dedicated to the advancement and dissemination of knowledge of plant pathology and its practice in the Australasian and Indo-Pacific region.
