Massey University Provost Professor Giselle Byrnes says Massey’s continued strong performance in QS subject rankings is great to see. “We are delighted with our placings in the latest QS World University Subject Rankings, which sees Massey continue to be placed in the top tier of universities around the world across a range of subject areas. Our continued excellence in these subject areas evidences our commitment to being a world-class research and teaching institution.”

The university’s position as one of the world leaders in veterinary science continues, with the subject remaining in the top 50, with a ranking of 29th globally. Similarly, Massey’s strength in agriculture has continued, with the university ranking 52nd globally in this subject.

Communication and media studies has moved up an entire bracket, to now rank in the top 100, and Development Studies entered the top 50 for the first time, to place at 45th globally.

A further six subjects rank in the top 200, an increase of two from the 2021 rankings. These subjects are art and design, architecture/built environment, nursing, geography, accounting and finance, and education.

Significantly, the areas of art and design, agriculture, veterinary science, communication and media studies, and development studies are ranked first in New Zealand for these subjects, another increase on last year. In addition, subjects across all five faculty areas ranked this year, compared to three out of five last year.

The 2022 QS World University Rankings examined 1543 universities worldwide across 51 subjects. Universities are evaluated according to four metrics: academic reputation, employer reputation, citations per paper, and H-index.
