The QS World University Rankings is one of the most widely recognised global benchmarks of higher education performance, providing an annual assessment of universities based on a range of indicators including academic reputation, employer reputation, research impact, internationalisation and sustainability.

Contributing to Massey’s overall result was a significant rise in the Employment Outcomes category, rising 92 positions to be ranked 173rd. This measure assesses how effectively universities support graduate employability, an important measure of student success, and also measures the impact of Massey’s graduates around the world. Massey’s Employer Reputation score also rose by 58 positions.

Vice-Chancellor Professor Pierre Venter noted Massey’s highest-ever position in the QS World University Rankings.

“This result is a testament to the dedication of our staff, the success of our graduates, and our commitment to delivering an outstanding, globally relevant education.

“Improvements across key indicators, such as employment outcomes and employer reputation, highlight the quality of our programmes, the strength of our connections with industry and our focus on preparing students for impactful careers through applied, hands-on learning, such as our work-integrated learning programmes.”

Massey continues to be ranked in the top 300 in the world for Academic Reputation. This indicator measures the reputation of a university and its academic programmes through survey feedback from national and international academic experts.

On the same day the rankings were released, representatives from QS visited the university’s Manawatū campus, with planned activities including a tour of Tāwharau Ora School of Veterinary Science – currently ranked 1st in Australasia and Asia in the latest QS Subject Rankings.

For the 2027 rankings, QS assessed 8,808 universities (341 more than last year) and ranked 1,504. The analysis included 21 million publications (1.2 million more than last year) and 222 million citations (22 million more), alongside 1.6 million academic nominations and 600,000 employer nominations.
