Distinguished Professor Marti Anderson and Professor Michael Hall
The World’s Top 2% Scientists, a prestigious list published annually by Stanford University and Elsevier, names the most highly cited researchers across various science disciplines.
In 2026, more than 50 Massey researchers, past and present, are included in the top two per cent of scientists globally. This list ranks scientists globally based on how often their published research was cited in 2025.
Massey’s highest-ranked scholar is Professor Michael Hall at number 274 on the list. Professor Hall is the Dean's Chair in Marketing, Sustainability and Society in the School of Management and Marketing. His research focuses on tourism, regional development and global environmental change.
Ecological statistician Distinguished Professor Marti Anderson from the College of Sciences is the second-highest ranked Massey academic at 937.
Acting Deputy Vice-Chancellor Research, Distinguished Professor Gaven Martin, says this international recognition reflects Massey’s dedication to research with real-world impact.
“Massey is immensely proud to see our researchers recognised in this way. It is a great acknowledgement of the calibre and depth of research expertise across the university, and the contributions Massey makes to advance knowledge. The staff on the list are exemplars, leading research in their fields internationally.”
