During the visit, Vice-Chancellor Professor Pierre Venter expressed appreciation for the Chinese Embassy’s continued support of Massey University, particularly through its assistance to Chinese students and the development of institutional partnerships. He highlighted the university’s recent achievements in collaboration with Chinese partners, with a strong emphasis on agriculture, food systems, and related research and innovation.
“There has been a steady flow of senior delegations visiting Massey from China in recent times, reflecting the strength and maturity of these relationships. We have plans to further expand our joint education programmes and research partnerships in China, and to continue building on existing transnational education initiatives and shared academic strengths.”
China remains Massey University’s most significant international partner for offshore programme delivery, research collaboration and industry engagement. The university currently works with a wide network of Chinese institutions and hosts one of the largest cohorts of Chinese students in Aotearoa New Zealand.
Ambassador Wang commended Massey University for its achievements in engagement and cooperation with China, noting the breadth of its academic strengths and the practical impact of its international partnerships. He reaffirmed the Embassy’s willingness to support ongoing collaboration, including facilitating connections and helping both sides move towards more tangible, high-quality outcomes.
