The 2025 School of Aviation Open Day last Saturday was a huge success despite the windy weather which resulted in trial flight cancellations. An unprecedented number of prospective students and their families pre-registered for the event. Te Kura Rererangi School of Aviation organised 40 student volunteers to assist and a total of almost 500 visitors, including 195 prospective students and their whānau visited the Centre throughout the day.
School of Aviation Chief Executive Ashok Poduval says feedback from the visitors was very positive, with many comments about the high level of professionalism, safety and attention to industry best practices.
Mr Poduval says there’s been strong interest from potential students interested in learning more about the dedicated aviation degrees on offer at Te Kunenga ki Pūrehuroa Massey University.
He says with Airbus and Boeing forecasting robust growth and requirements for over 600,000 pilots globally over the next 20 years, it’s a good time to pursue a career in aviation.
“These predictions are based on aircraft orders and will naturally translate to employment prospects across the board, not just for pilots but also for aviation management graduates, with opportunities in airlines, airports and other aviation agencies.”
Massey University offers two aviation degrees – the Bachelor of Aviation Air Transport Pilot major (ATP) and the Bachelor of Aviation Management. There was significant interest in both qualifications from prospective students at the Open Day.
Update to story Thursday 25 September
