Tiani completed a Bachelor of Commerce in Entrepreneurship at the University of Pretoria while working at one of South Africa’s largest banks, Standard Bank. The role gave her an early start in the corporate world and taught her to thrive in demanding environments.

“At 20, I was working on the Global Markets Trading Floor, and it was quite an intimidating environment to start my career in,” she says. “But it taught me a huge amount about professionalism, discipline, and resilience.”

Her degree also opened doors internationally. A semester abroad in France gave her the opportunity to study French and experience a different way of learning and living. That exposure to other cultures sparked her interest in how people and organisations operate across borders.

“Living and studying in Paris broadened my perspective in ways I couldn’t have imagined at the time. It showed me how powerful it is to step outside your comfort zone and see the world through different lenses.”

That experience eventually led her to New Zealand, where she was drawn to Massey’s reputation for practical, future-focused learning and the flexibility of the Master of Management programme. She says the decision has paid off both academically and personally.

“My time at Massey was so rewarding, not just for what I’ve learned in the classroom, but also for how I’ve grown personally. The university has a real focus on developing global leaders and giving students the tools to apply what they learn in real-world contexts.”

Since graduating, Tiani is now looking ahead to new opportunities that combine her interests in entrepreneurship, strategy and international business. She is especially passionate about finding ways to connect her experiences across three continents to drive innovation and social impact.

“Every experience I’ve had, from South Africa to France to New Zealand, has shown me how connected our world is. I want to use that understanding to build businesses that create value across borders.”

That passion now drives Tiani’s work in New Zealand’s insurance industry, where she’s established herself as a business analysis specialist focused on transforming digital customer experiences. Drawing on her international background, she delivers meaningful change, earning recognition for her impact and leadership along the way.

For Tiani, the journey has been as much about personal growth as professional ambition. She says the supportive Massey community and the chance to live in New Zealand have made her postgraduate experience unforgettable.
