Massey University ranked 215th in the world
In the 2027 QS World University Rankings, we're ranked 215th globally. We have been in the top 250 for 4 consecutive years. We are in the top 100 for International Students, top 150 for International Faculty, top 150 for Sustainability, top 200 for Employment Outcomes and top 300 for Academic Reputation.
QS 5+ star rating
Massey was awarded 5+ stars by QS for the third consecutive time. This rating highlights our strengths independent of rankings. We received 5 stars in each of the 9 assessed categories: employability, environmental impact, facilities, global engagement, inclusiveness, innovation & knowledge transfer, online learning, research & teaching. This includes 5 stars in the subject of Veterinary Science.
Massey is ranked 215th globally in the 2027 QS Rankings which marks our 4 consecutive year in the top 250 universities in the world.
QS ranks more than 1,500 universities through the analysis of 21 million research papers, 222 million research paper citations, 1.6 million votes in an academic reputation survey and 600,000 votes in an employer reputation survey.
The ranking is based on 9 specific metrics grouped into 5 areas, covering all core missions of global, research-led universities.

Times Higher Education Online Learning Ranking
Massey University received a Gold rank in the inaugural Times Higher Education Online Learning Rankings 2024.
This ranking is the first attempt to measure online learning on a global basis. Massey was the only New Zealand university that was awarded the highest possible rank in this global ranking, where 11 institutions were awarded Gold, 14 awarded Silver and 31 awarded Bronze.
Institutions were assessed for 4 pillars: Resources, Engagement, Outcomes and Environment. Massey was the only university that was ranked first in 2 pillars: Engagement and Environment.

The Global Ranking of Sport Science Schools and Departments allows sport-related institutions and units to compare with similar peers other than multi-disciplinary universities in a specific subject.
Massey University’s School of Sport, Exercise and Nutrition is ranked 151-200 globally and 3rd in New Zealand.

Times Higher Education Impact Ratings
The Times Higher Education Impact Ratings measure global universities’ successes in delivering on the United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). In achieving its global 96th equal rank, Massey now has 3 SDGs in the top 30, another 3 SDGs in the top 50 and a further 4 SDGs in the top 100, improving its position in 11 SDGs.
Massey has 3 SDGs in the top 30. Massey is ranked 21st for SDG2 Zero Hunger and SDG15 Life on Land, and 28th for SDG13 Climate Action.
In the top 50: SDG5 Gender Equality (32nd equal), SDG14 Life Below Water (49th), and SDG11 Sustainable Cities and Communities (50th equal).
