China Scholarships Council-Massey University PhD Scholars Programme
Massey University invites high achieving, excellent Chinese students to apply for PhD study in New Zealand with scholarship support from the China Scholarships Council (CSC) and the University. Our collaboration is designed to foster research cooperation between Massey University and Chinese universities by supporting doctoral candidates to undertake original research.
There are up to 10 scholarships available annually. Applications for admission at Massey close on 15 January each year.
Who is eligible?
These scholarships are designed for full-time Chinese PhD candidates to study at Massey University in New Zealand for up to four years. PhD candidates must meet the entry criteria for doctoral studies at Massey University, as well as the English language requirements. These are outlined as part of the PhD application process available online here.
What is the value of the scholarship?
PhD candidates who receive the scholarship are provided with a fees scholarship from Massey University and financial support from the CSC, as outlined on their website. The duration of the scholarship is 4 years. The scholarship provides funding for University fees, as well as a living allowance, as determined by the CSC, return airfare to New Zealand by the most economical route, student visa fees and the cost of health insurance for international students.
Massey University is now taking applications for the 2020 scholarship round.
Applications are due by 15 January 2020 for study to commence in 2020.
How do I apply?
1.Ensure you meet the minimum entry criteria for PhD study at Massey University, including English language requirements.
2.Investigate Massey University strengths in your area of research and our potential supervisors to support your study. You will find information about our Colleges and Research Centres and academic expertise on our web pages.
3.Make sure you have the documents required for a PhD admissions application at Massey University:
- Transcripts for all tertiary qualifications, master's, bachelor's, even if these are incomplete.
- Grading legends for all tertiary qualifications.
- All graduation certificates.
- Curriculum Vitae.
- References to any publications you have.
- English language test results.
- Evidence of your citizenship.
4.Ensure you have approached two academic referees who will be able to provide a reference to support your application. These may be research supervisors or other academic staff who can comment on your suitability as a PhD candidate.
5.Complete and submit an application for PhD admission to Massey University.
It is important that when you complete the application you self-identify as a CSC applicant. Under personal information, how will your study be financed, ‘other’ please state:
CSC-Massey Joint Scholarship Application.
6.If your application for admission to Massey University is successful you will be issued an Offer of Place which you can then submit with your application for a CSC scholarship.
7.If your CSC scholarship application is successful, the CSC will inform both you and Massey University. The University will contact you to confirm your start date and work with you to finalise your supervisory panel and complete your enrolment application. You will also need to apply for a student visa to study in New Zealand.
