LES MILLS group fitness classes are held in the Activity Centre at the back of the Recreation Centre. We are one of only two gyms in Palmerston North licensed to offer these classes from Les Mills.
In a group fitness class you can draw off the energy of the group and share achievements while cycling, dancing or practicing mind-body fusion.
Whether you’re interested in strength or cardio fitness, fat loss or toning, agility, speed, endurance, coordination, flexibility or health we have classes to suit your fitness objectives.
We also offer LES MILLS On Demand at a discounted rate so you can workout at home.

LES MILLS programmes explained
A high-energy, sports-inspired workout with moves that combine athletic movements like running, lunging and jumping with strength exercises such as push-ups and squats.
Simple but challenging exercises over 45 minutes using Yoga and Pilates sequences to strengthen and tone your key muscle groups. Poses and stretches are used to create suppleness and flexibility. The class finishes with 10 minutes of relaxation and meditation to fully relax.
The original barbell workout for absolutely everyone. Using light to moderate weights with lots of repetition (reps). It gives you a total body workout that burns calories, strengthens and tones.
BODYSTEP™ is basic stepping, just like walking up and down stairs. This full-body cardio workout will really tone your butt and thighs. Athletic and Classic classes available.
CORE™ provides the vital ingredient for a stronger body while chiselling your waist line. A stronger core makes you better at all things you do – it's the glue that holds everything together.
This workout uses step, bodyweight and sport conditioning exercises to improve overall athletic performance.
A 30 minute high-intensity interval training (HIIT) workout, designed to improve strength and build lean muscle. This workout uses a barbell, weight plates and body weight exercises to blast all major muscle groups.
A 30 minute high-intensity interval training (HIIT) workout that improves cardiovascular fitness, increase speed and maximise calorie burn.
LES MILLS GRIT™ Plyo
A 30-minute high-intensity interval training (HIIT) plyometric-based workout, designed to make you perform like an athlete.
An indoor cycling class, set to the rhythm of motivating music. It blasts calories and builds aerobic fitness fast.
LES MILLS BARRE™
A modern version of classic balletic training. A 30-minute workout designed to shape and tone postural muscles, build core strength, and allow you to escape the everyday.
Children in group fitness classes
A group fitness class is generally not a suitable environment for children but we are happy to have them if they are supervised well. Please make sure children are:
- placed in a safe position (away from potential harm from dropped weights and so on)
- wearing ear protection
- removed if other class attendees are being disturbed.
Full and group fitness-only plans allow entry to all LES MILLS classes.
- $10 for student
- $12 for staff and community
We also offer a 10-session pass for $100.

Need equipment or space to do LES MILLS On Demand?
If you want to do an online class that needs equipment but don't have your own, you can book to use our Dojo or Activity Centre or Cycle Studio.
Booking is free for Recreation Centre members and $5 for non-members (pay at reception). You need to be a LES MILLS On Demand subscriber to get this booking rate.

- LES MILLS On Demand (LMOD) is a subscription-based service. Massey Sport and Recreation Centre is not responsible for sign-up and cancellations.
- Your Sport and Recreation Centre membership is separate from your LMOD subscription. A LMOD subscription does not mean you can attend timetabled LES MILLS Group Fitness classes.
- If you book the Recreation Centre to do a LMOD workout and bring someone with you who is not a Recreation Centre member or LMOD subscriber then they need to pay full price for the facilities
- You need to provide your own device to access and display LMOD workouts.
