Overview

This course will be of value to organisations who are actively planning to improve their employees’ knowledge and understanding of their customers, especially those facing vulnerable circumstances, and apply best practice models that will improve both consumer and business outcomes.

There are a number of organisations that offer workshops or one-stop-shop seminars for their own workforce on various topics related to vulnerability. However, there is no structured programme accessible to the general workforce that is educationally comprehensive, while focused on consumer wellbeing.

Fin-Ed Centre, in collaboration with the DebtManagers team, will lead the content development and delivery of this course.

What is different about our course

Although there are a few organisations that offer courses and training for the workforce engaged in working with vulnerable consumers, there is still a clear gap in New Zealand for a course that:

  • integrates financial vulnerability + behavioural insights + practice skills
  • is cross-sector (finance + social services)
  • provides applied practitioner training, not just knowledge.

Who this course is for

This course is ideal for:

  • people who wish to understand the fundamentals of managing personal finances
  • employers who are ready to support their employees’ financial wellbeing and create a more resilient workplace.

Participants will learn principles of financial capability and how to apply it in their everyday lives for themselves and their whānau. Some participants may wish to use the certificate as a stepping-stone to further study for a university degree or diploma. This certificate can also prove that the workplace is a financially resilient organisation.

What you'll get

When you successfully complete the course, you will be provided with a Massey University Working with Consumers in Vulnerable Circumstances Completion Certificate. This can be used towards your professional body's ongoing CPD requirement, and for your current and future employer. It will demonstrate a skillset developed by a leading tertiary institution.

Learning outcomes

By undertaking this course, you will be able to:

  • describe and apply ethical frameworks and Te Tiriti o Waitangi-informed principles in financial capability practice
  • apply ethical and professional principles to interactions with consumers experiencing vulnerability.
  • evaluate current financial services practices in New Zealand related to consumer vulnerability and propose enhancements to professional and industry practices.
  • apply practical strategies and interventions that support consumers experiencing vulnerability and promote organisational compliance, fairness and inclusiveness.
