Who we're looking for

We're looking for students who are transitioning from high school with evidence of service or leadership qualities and who are interested in studying the Bachelor of Communication.

What you'll be studying

This is an undergraduate scholarship for students entering the first year of the Bachelor of Communication at Massey University.

Eligibility criteria

You will:

  • be a New Zealand citizen or permanent resident
  • be transitioning to Massey University from secondary school
  • have attained an NCEA Level 2 Certificate with a merit endorsement or better, or equivalent
  • intending to enrol full time (minimum of 105 credits) in the first year of a Bachelor of Communication at Massey University

Include the following with your application:

  • Transcripts for your secondary school results. If you are studying NCEA please attach your School results Summary from the NZQA website at https://secure.nzqa.govt.nz/for-learners/records/login.do . On the My School Entries and Results page, click the 'view as pdf' (button on the right-hand side) to save this document.
  • A personal statement with evidence of service or leadership qualities.

Selection considerations

When choosing our recipients we will consider your academic achievements as well as your evidence of service or leadership qualities.

Community engagement/service may include:

  • School citizenship – service to clubs (e.g., sport, performing arts), school events (e.g., Open Day), other students (e.g., mentoring/buddy support to new/younger students)
  • Community citizenship – voluntary work on the marae, local community (e.g., environmental clean-up; assistance at Foodbanks and other related community services)
  • Contributions or participation in other social/cultural/church groups.

Leadership qualities may be demonstrated by:

  • Clubs/groups/school or class leadership – examples of leadership positions held, or actions taken that exhibit leadership qualities (e.g., guided, inspired others towards a common goal or project), and leadership skills noticed by others (e.g., communication, positive influence, decision-making, problem-solving, conflict resolution, emotional intelligence, fostering teamwork).
